If you are not a Canadian citizen, you do not have an automatic right of entry to the country. Unless, you are a permanent resident, you must generally secure a temporary resident visa abroad before seeking to enter Canada to visit, study or work.
To apply for a visa, you must have a valid passport or travel/identity document that guarantees your re-entry to the country that issued. You must show the purpose of your trip and how long you intend to stay in Canada. You must also provide details of your accommodation and living expenses and prove that you have sufficient funds to pay for your stay in Canada. The visa officer will want to know what ties you may have with Canada and your home country.
If you were invited to Canada by a friend or family member, the visa officer will require proof of an invitation as well as information on your host’s personal circumstances and immigration status. Business visitors may come to Canada for business meetings, site visits or for training. They must prove that their main source of income and that their main place of business is outside Canada.
