Your Canadian citizen or permanent resident spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, child, parent or other relatives as defined by the regulations may be eligible to sponsor you to immigrate to Canada. The application must be initiated by your Canadian sponsor.

Your sponsor must be aged at least 18 years and must be residing in Canada. If your sponsor is not currently residing in Canada, he may still be able to sponsor you if you are his spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner and dependent child who has no dependent children of your own. However, he must prove that he will reside in Canada when you become a permanent resident.

Your sponsor must be willing to sign an undertaking to provide for your basic requirements and that of your accompanying family members. Depending on your relationship with your sponsor, he may be required to provide proof of income that is not less than the minimum necessary income published yearly by the Canadian government.
